Interactive Map of Unmarked Burial Sites Linked to Residential Schools

January 27, 2025

Canadian Geographic, in partnership with aligned organizations, has developed an interactive map of unmarked burial sites connected to Indian Residential Schools in Canada.

This map is a tool for education, awareness, and remembrance, highlighting the Sacred Work of locating, protecting, and commemorating burial sites of children who never returned home. It also serves as a resource for Survivors, Indigenous families, and communities in their ongoing efforts to honor and protect the missing and disappeared children.

View the map here: https://pathstoreconciliation.canadiangeographic.ca/unmarked-graves-and-burial-sites/#mainmap

The map is intended primarily to support the work of Survivors, families, and communities. Photos and locations shared are for education and awareness, not for exploitation. This information must never be used to harass, intimidate, or disrespect Survivors, Indigenous communities, or the memory of the children.

The map will be updated regularly. It draws on publicly available data, but we acknowledge that Survivors, families, and communities hold the deepest knowledge about the locations of unmarked burials. If you have concerns about accuracy, please reach out to Skylee.Storm@osi-bis.ca.
