Nee Kee Wa Nan at the Old Post Gathering 2025

September 30, 2025

During this year’s Old Post Gathering in Fort Albany (September 15-19, 2025) and on September 30, the Nee Kee Wa Nan Survivor Initiative officially launched its 2025 Research report on St. Anne’s Residential School alongside the wake of the 10th anniversary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

This is a major step moving us closer towards truth-telling and documenting survivor’s experiences from St. Anne’s Residential School operating from 1903-1976 under the Catholic Church.

The 2025 Research Report brings together Survivors testimonies and archival findings to provide a comprehensive record of the school’s and survivor’s history. The report sheds light to approximately 711 former students who attended. This report presents a detailed timeline of events at the school, a list of the children who died, and information about the students’ home communities as well as transfers to and from other institutions. The report also shares the story of three missing boys, John Kioki, Michel Matinas, and Michel Sutherland Whose lives and legacies continue to be honored by Survivors, families, and communities. This report marks an important step in truth-telling and remembrance, providing a foundation for continued efforts to seek justice and healing.
